Kenya Youth Employment and Opportunities Project (KYEOP)
Job Specific Skills Training (JSST)
Edzes Kenya Limited signed a contract with the Kenya Youth Employment and Opportunities Project (KYEOP) in November 2018. This was a project of the Government of Kenya, in partnership with the World Bank, which was implemented from 2016 to 2023 through the Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs (MPYG), The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (MLSP) and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives (MITC) with an objective of increasing employment and earning opportunities among targeted youths. The main beneficiaries of the project were youth between 18 and 29 years of age, who are without jobs and have experienced extended spells of unemployment or who are currently working in vulnerable jobs or who have completed their secondary education and are looking to upskill and gain employability skills and/or pursue entrepreneurship. In this project, Edzes Kenya Limited worked with the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) and later Ministry of Innovation ICT and Youth Affairs (MIIYA) to address the lack of relevant work experience and competencies including behavioral skills needed for employment by offering training and work experience to over 1,000 targeted youth in 13 counties (Nyandarua, Machakos, Nakuru, Nairobi, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Mandera, Wajir, Kisumu, Kisii, Bungoma and Kakamega). The beneficiaries completed industrial internship and sat for the NITA trade proficiency tests with some being awarded grants by the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA).
